• Multi Fuel – Multi Process – Multi Product (MFPP) Energy Installation

NRG is proud to introduce the innovative MFPP plant. A single plant design, which is based on proven technologies and has commercial references for each step in design. A MFPP plant is customized to fit your specific needs, allows you to turn any combination of diverse biomass and secondary fuel streams into a range of high quality energy carriers, each of which can be used to replace fossil fuels. By utilizing NRG’s proprietary software, SMARTPlanned, the plant investment can be scrutinized in advance. This results in a commercially viable ‘Multi Fuel - Multi Product’ installation, with a profitable business case The core properties of the MFPP plant are:

    • One plant concept, customized to fit your needs
    • Standardized primary components
    • Standardized operation & maintenance
    • Three different, subsequent and clean conversion processes combined in one technology concept
    • Three marketable high quality output products
    • Torrefied Coal
    • Hydrocarbon Condensate
    • MFPP Gas
    • Multi Fuel, utilizing biomass and secondary fuel streams
    • Resulting in a profitable business case

A single MFPP installation with standardized components can now accommodate virtually every available form of biomass or secondary fuel stream and turn it into every high quality energy carrier in commercial demand on the market today, optional in combination with co-generation of electricity/steam/heat, resulting in a profitable business case.
  • A. Multi Fuel

The MFPP plant can process combinations of all common organic biomass, including sludge and sewer, secondary fuel streams and aluminum.

A common form of secondary fuel stream for the MFPP installation is end-of-life plastics which can’t be further recycled. Production takes place in accordance with TÜV/PÜG guidelines, specifying the procedure to ensure that each fraction from which the secondary fuel is produced is traceable in order to guarantee quality and composition. Process steps for the production of this type of secondary fuel comprise of sorting, mechanical processing, breaking, shredding, and agglomerating.

A typical MFPP plant has a feedstock capacity of 4,5T/h dry solid material. Of course, other capacities can also be accommodated. Opposite to MFPP common installations recycling biomass or secondary fuel streams are limited to a small number or even a single type of fuel; a limitation which is induced by the plant’s processing technology. For example: a torrefaction plant heats its feedstock to up to 300°C, which works great for sawdust, but is insufficient to process secondary fuel streams. The MFPP process, however, can accommodate differed feedstocks without physically adapting the installation.

As a result of smart integration of three complementary processing technologies in a single installation, the MFPP plant is very flexible in terms of input options.

  • B. Multi Process

The unique multi process design of the MFPP plant offers a unique combination of technologies which are complementary in terms of temperature range, allowing the single plant installation to accommodate your selection from a wide range of input streams and efficiently produce the desired combination of high quality products.

The three processes integrated in the MFPP plant are Torrefaction, Pyrolysis and Gasification. The MFPP installation is set up to fit your desired combination of input options and output needs.

    Torrefaction
    • Input: biomass
    • Processing temperature range: 300°C
    • Output: maximum Torrefied Coal production

    Pyrolysis
    • Input: biomass and/or secondary fuel streams
    • Processing temperature range: 400°C - 600°C
    • Output: maximum Pyrolysis Oil production

    Gasification
    • Input: biomass and/or secondary fuel streams
    • Processing temperature range: 600°C and up
    • Output: maximum Hydrocarbon Condensate production

  • C. Multi Product

Based on the available fuel, the MFPP plant can be set up to optimally benefit from the most efficient processing technology available for the specific type of fuel. This results in the MFPP plant offering the highest possible production volume of the desired combination of high quality output products. All products are marketable energy carriers of exceptional quality, each suitable to replace fossil fuels. Moreover, the MFPP plant can optionally be operated in such a way it’s fully aligned with the Cradle2Cradle philosophy, without jeopardizing the business case. Below, the main products have been summarized.

    Torrefied Coal
Energy-densified powder is pelletized, resulting in a high quality, very compact, easily transportable, water-resistant and high energy pellet which can be used to replace coal for co-firing and traditional trading schemes.

    BioChar
Addition of BioChar to soils can enhance fertility leading to increased crop yields or allowing reduced application of energy intensive agrochemicals.

    Hydrocarbon Condensate
High quality Hydrocarbon Condensate. Hydrocarbon Condensate is a mixture of over 300 compounds and can be used for a variety of applications such as an energy carrier, as source for many commodity chemicals and can be upgraded to transportation fuel.

    MFPP Gas
MFPP gas can be conditioned to syngas, which depending on the feedstock can be used to replace natural gas.
